Dr. Amos Ngwira

Dr. Amos Ngwira is an agronomist by training, with BSc from the University of Malawi, MSC from Ghent University and a PhD from Norwegian University of Life Sciences. Amos has spent several years carrying research on developing and adapting agricultural technologies into the maize-legume cropping systems among smallholder farmers in Eastern and Southern Africa. He applies crop modelling in advancing understanding of trade-offs and synergies in cereal-legume cropping systems. This is achieved through the collation of existing and relevant datasets to validate the modelling of intercrop systems for optimizing water and nutrient use efficiency. While working for the Department of Agricultural Research Services, he coordinated adaptive research component of the Sustainable Agriculture Production Programme funded by IFAD and Sustainable Intensification of Maize-Legume Systems in Eastern and Southern Africa funded by ACIAR. He enjoys co-supervising MSc students both from local institutions and outside Malawi.
