Dr. Kurt Waldman

My research examines how farmers’ preferences and perceptions of risk influence their cropping choices and behavior. My current research agenda is focused on food security in Africa and seeks to understand barriers to adoption of sustainable agricultural practices particularly in light of climate variability in low rainfall areas. I explore these questions through the lens of behavioral and institutional economics and often use field experiments to understand farmers’ preferences. I am currently a research fellow in the Ostrom Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis.
