BIOGRAPHY

I am a political ecologist, ethnobiologist and economic anthropologist studying the knowledge systems, land management practices, and trade routes of Indigenous and forest peoples in the Brazilian Amazon. At CGCEO, I support a global, multi-institutional research project focused on Indigenous led solutions to interlinked environmental and energy crises. My fieldwork uses ethnography, participatory mapping, and surveys to identify heretofore ‘invisible’ socio-bioeconomy of Indigenous practice involving foods, medicinal, cosmetic, and other high value non-timber forest and agroforestry goods – in coordination with a MSU research team mapping and modeling forest resilience, land restoration practices and processes of community empowerment in the state of Pará in the Brazilian Amazon.
